I just don’t get it. I just don’t get why the DC cinematic universe simply can’t seem to deliver. There simply hasn’t been what I would consider any “must – sees” since Christopher Nolan’s Batman / Dark Knight series. Those were quite frankly the best of the best. And I thoroughly enjoyed 2013’s Man Of Steel.
Aquaman has gotten much acclaim, attention, and fanfare. But sadly I believe it has more to do with Jason Mamoa than the actual movie itself.
When I was a kid, one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons was The Super Friends. Back then, me and my brothers and friends considered Aquaman to be the corniest of the bunch. Big muscles, and over-the-top CGI can’t help escape that stigma in a movie with such half-baked dialogue and a far too predictable plot.
To its credit, there are some pretty great fight sequences that are excellently timed and filmed.
But there is hope – even though the end sequence was just as predictable as the rest of the plot, a thoughtful development of the Black Mantis character could make for an intriguing follow up.
Unfortunately for me, this was another 2 1/2 hour DC miss.
