Happy Anniversary, www

30th-anniversary-of-the-world-wide-web-4871946884874240.5-law

30 years later, and how are we doing? On one hand, it would seem the web shrunk the world and has connected us to cultures we could never have imaged being connected to before. We can communicate with others almost anywhere for free. We can see the wonders of the world that we may have never had the opportunity to see before. We can work in collaboration with those who are hundreds, or even thousands, of miles away. We can indulge in things we love to create like never before. Education on nearly every conceivable topic or skill can be reached by almost anyone in the world. Commerce and trade can move at the blink of an eye.

But on the other hand, it can seem that it has driven us further apart. Privacy Advocates are literally pulling their hair out as they come to the realization that many of us have known for some time now – traditional “privacy” is basically nonexistent. Once you click, share, view, shop, download or upload, literally all bets are off in regards to privacy. Criminals of all walks of life have found new and dangerous dark places to hide, while remaining cloaked in anonymity. Tyrannical leaders have yet another, more powerful tool to feed propaganda to their people while simultaneously cutting them off from the rest of the world. Bullying and hatred have evolved in ways that no one could have imagined before.

But ultimately, like most things in life, the internet can be what you make it for yourself – good or bad. Simply put, wherever your focus is, the internet has countless open paths to lead you to conclusions of knowledge or belief. The choice is yours.

Happy 30th Anniversary, World Wide Web!

For The Love Of Music

Like pretty much every form of music, there will always be a special place in my heart for Disco. In fact, I’ll never understand dismissive behavior of music of any kind by  purists in general.

Thing is, when I listen to classics like this one from The Brothers Gibb (better known as The Bee Gees), I hear a perfected arrangement with beautifully crafted orchestration.

Speaking of which, it’s almost sad to me that The Bee Gees will always be remembered for this because the fact is the sheer volume of music these boys wrote and produced is quite frankly mind blowing! Even well before they reached the “Saturday Night Fever” point in history.

But I digress… I’m just thankful that I was born with the gift of being able to appreciate and truly enjoy great music with being bound by the constraints of so-called “real music” rules. There is so much great music to be missed by living under those rules.

Aqua Meh….

I just don’t get it. I just don’t get why the DC cinematic universe simply can’t seem to deliver. There simply hasn’t been what I would consider any “must – sees” since Christopher Nolan’s Batman / Dark Knight series. Those were quite frankly the best of the best. And I thoroughly enjoyed 2013’s Man Of Steel.

Aquaman has gotten much acclaim, attention, and fanfare. But sadly I believe it has more to do with Jason Mamoa than the actual movie itself.

When I was a kid, one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons was The Super Friends. Back then, me and my brothers and friends considered Aquaman to be the corniest of the bunch. Big muscles, and over-the-top CGI can’t help escape that stigma in a movie with such half-baked dialogue and a far too predictable plot.

To its credit, there are some pretty great fight sequences that are excellently timed and filmed.

But there is hope – even though the end sequence was just as predictable as the rest of the plot, a thoughtful development of the Black Mantis character could make for an intriguing follow up.

Unfortunately for me, this was another 2 1/2 hour DC miss.

Her First Job!

Proud Papa Moment!!

Excited and proud that Fei has officially landed her first job! She has been wanting to get a job for some time, and has been looking and applying.

But she got this job simply by being herself while ordering food at our foster son’s birthday party.
